He was predeceased by: his parents, Billie Jo and Marvin Short; his grandmother Lois Josephine Woody; his former wife Betty Jean Jackson; his sons, Tracy Hampton and Larry Dean McElroy, Jr.; and his sister Shirley Short Halferty.
He is survived by: his wife Bessie May Hampton of England; his sister Donna Hardin (Carroll); his children, Joanna Hampton, Jaime McElroy Harris, John Hampton and Allen McElroy (Jean); his uncle Troy Jones (Sonny); and his close friend Ronnie Grace (Kathy). He is also survived by many nieces; nephews and grandchildren.
