He was predeceased by: his parents, J. V. Crownover and Mary Crownover; his brother Byron Crownover; and his grandparents, William Daniel, Pearl Crownover, Charles Archie and Wilhelmina "Minnie" Melton.

He is survived by: his wife Carol Dotson; his sons, Joel Crownover and Brian; his grandchildren, Megan Crownover and James Daniel Crownover; and his siblings, William "Bill", Randall, Linda Crownover and Ginger. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
