He was predeceased by: his wife Elizabeth Cullins Burgess; his parents, Myra Forrest Burgess and George G. Burgess, Sr.; his brother Calvin R. Burgess; and his grandson Travis P. Burgess.
He is survived by: his sons, George G. Burgess III (Sharon) of North Augusta, SC, Brian M. Burgess (Belinda) of Prairie Grove, AR and Kevin P. Burgess (Karen) of Ferrum, VA; his grandchildren, Kenny Brown, Brenda Metcalf, Matthew Burgess, Tyler Burgess (Marissa), Logan Burgess and Emily Burgess; his great grandchildren, Lillie, Emma and Sophia; and his siblings-in-law, Margaret C. Burgess of Franklin, VA and Will R. "Dooley" Cullins (Lynne) of Apex, NC.. He is also survived by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial donations made in his honor can be made to Sycamore Baptist Church or the American Legion of Franklin, VA.
