He was predeceased by: his father Jessie Nelson; his brother Wilford Aaron; and his grandparents, Lige, Esther Nelson, Jessie B. and Rosella Avery.
He is survived by: his mother Martinea Nelson-Aaron; his son Robert Jamal Avery; his granddaughters, Briella and Navee Avery; and his siblings, Martha Jean Frazier, Jessie James Williams (Debra), Lillie Barnette (Stevie), Sharon Davis, Felisha Williams (Rickey), Rose Avery, Katherine Golden (Hayward), Joyce Ann Avery, Preston Avery, Fredrick Nelson (Nichole), Carla Avery, Steven Avery (Ireen), ReShonda Hardiman (Alphonso) and Tiffany Avery (Robert). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces, nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
