We bid farewell to Melba Jean Hurd of Dyer, Arkansas, whose journey of life gracefully concluded on February 21, 2025 at the age of 89. Melba Jean touched countless lives with warmth and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in hearts. She was predeceased by: her parents, Oddie Dickerson and Iva Jean Dickerson (Dawson); her husband James A. Hurd; her daughter Sheilla Smith; her son-in-law Larry Smith; and her sister-in-law Lee Dickerson.
She is survived by: her daughter Alta Wilson (Z. C.) of Fort Smith; her brothers, Johnnie Dickerson (Bertha) of Mulberry and Charles Dickerson of Mulberry; her grandchildren, James Hamilton (Tracey) of Dallas and Lynnetta Penson (Travis) of Fayetteville; and her great grandchildren, Zachary of Dallas, Dillon of Dallas, Nathan Hamilton of Dallas, Paige of Fayetteville and Presley Penson of Fayetteville. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews that were like children.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 25th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home (4100 Alma Hwy, Van Buren, AR 72956). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 26th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel (4100 Alma Hwy, Van Buren, AR 72956). A burial will be held on Wednesday, February 26th 2025 at the Dyer Cemetery.
