He was predeceased by: his parents, John P. Bethell Sr. and Eloise Dailey Bethell; his brothers, Bobby and Clyde; and his stepson Rick Zimmerman (Jo).

He is survived by: his wife Margaret Ann; his sister Ann Guess (Donald); his children, Clay (Cara), John P. III (Jen) and Elizabeth Jones (Lee); and his stepson Phil Zimmerman (Tina). He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.
