He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Grimes and Edith Manes Grimes; and his siblings, Jean Tilmon, Mack Grimes, Billy Tilmon and Louie Tilmon.
He is survived by: his wife Joan Darter Grimes; his sons, Joe Carl Grimes Jr., Gary Grimes, Craig Grimes (Kip) and Mike Grimes (Kristy); and his brothers, Steve Grimes and Arthur "Junior" Tilmon. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
