He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry C. Merritt and Nora Robinson Merritt; his wife Polly Coffey Merritt; his siblings, Dana Merritt, Denver Merritt and Elizabeth Lane; and his son-in-law K. C. Hansen.
He is survived by: his children, Dane Merritt, David Merritt (Kay) and Teresa Hansen DeMier (Will); and his grandchildren, Jason Merritt (Kathleen), Jake Merritt (Allison), Marissa Pierson (Brandon), Dylan Merritt (Alicia), Natalie Brown (Cody) and Michelle Hansen (Lee Grigsby). He is also survived by eight great grandchildren.
