He was predeceased by: his father Kenneth Smithers; his sister Mary Reynolds; and his grandparents, Lee and Willie VanHorn. He is survived by: his wife Veta Smithers; his children, Dennis Smithers, Jr., Stephanie Gunther and Ashley Smithers; his grandchildren, Tyler Mickle, Trey Mickle, Trenton Mickle and Gracie Gunther; his siblings, David Cox, Cynthia Cox and Leoma Martin; and his mother Violet Cox. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
