He was predeceased by: his parents, Guy Sibley Mitchell and Velma Linza Mitchell (Lewis); his stepmother Jessamine; his sister Alto Pauline Boggess (Mitch); his brother-in-law Al Boggess; his brother Kenneth Eugene Mitchell; his sister-in-law Delores Mitchell; and his nephew John Boggess.
He is survived by: his wife Ellen; his children, Carol Griffin (David), Susan Vernon, Leslie Karen Minick (David) and Steven Richard Mitchell (Lisa Carol); and his grandchildren, Mitchell Bruce Taylor, Mark Howard Taylor, Leah Ellen Taylor, Chloe Amanda Mitchell, Lydia Sarah Mitchell, Elyse Nichole Mitchell, Kayla Jane Minick and Daniel Lavon Minick.
