He was predeceased by: his parents, Chester Cato and Gertrude Cato; his former wife Freda Cato; his son Fred Cato; and his granddaughter Shelby Cato.
He is survived by: his wife Mona Lou Cato; his sons, Don Cato (Mona), James Cato, Mark Setzler (Lynda), Jess Setzler (Susan) and Luke Setzler (Sandra); his nephew Gary; and his niece Sandi Wilson.
