He was predeceased by: his parents, Hubert Earl and Lottie Gertrude Russell (Carpenter); and his siblings, David, Johnny, Hubert, Carl, Charles Russell, Patsy Loyd and Beatrice Russell.

He is survived by: his sons, Perry Townsend of Sammamish and Tony Russell of San Jose, California; and his siblings, Nathan Russell of Trumann, Theresa Ely of Jonesboro and Vonda Taylor of Kansas. He is also survived by three grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
