He was predeceased by: his parents, H. Clyde Hiatt and Eula Y. Hiatt; and his siblings, Paul Hiatt, Bill Hiatt, Clyde L. Hiatt and Lucille H. Phillips.
He is survived by: his children, J. Sherman Hiatt II of Charleston and Misty D. Hiatt of Charleston; his granddaughters, April L. Newhart, Wendy M. Lovett (Shawn) and Katherine O. Gage; his great grandchild Alexis; his brother Don Y. Hiatt (Rebecca) of Charleston; and his sisters-in-law, Venoma Hiatt Newhart of Memphis, TN and Loretta B. Hiatt of Fayetteville, AR. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
