He was predeceased by: his parents, William Matt and Ruby Lemay Varner; his former wife Viola Varner; and his siblings, Boyd Varner and Geraldine Stigall.
He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Runyan Varner; his children, Matt Varner of Hardy, Ed Varner (Sherry) of Bakersfield, Tom Varner (Sandra) of Mound, Texas, Connie Jean Varner of Fayetteville and Angie Varner of Long Beach, California; and his sisters, Helen Porter of Batesville and Bonnie Markum of Bakersfield, California. He is also survived by six grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
