He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary Bragg McDaniel and George Albert Wheeler; his uncle John Byrd; and his aunt Virginia McDaniel. He is survived by: his cousins, Jay McDaniel (Kathy) and Linda Schulze (Tom); his nieces and nephews, Jason Byrd McDaniel (Clara), Matthew McDaniel (Lisa), Suzanne Youngkin (Glenn), Beth Robison (Chase) and Cynda Wroten (Eric); and his half-siblings, Rosa Wheeler McClintock and George Wheeler.
