He was predeceased by: his parents, Latta Lorena James Smee and Herbert Darling "Tot" Smee; and his siblings, Rosemary Smee, Patricia Smee and Ruben James "Chuck" Hayden.

He is survived by: his wife Laurie Smee; his family, John White (Debbie) of Memphis Tennessee and Elena Cornell (Bruce) of Fort Wayne, Indiana; his grandchildren, Cory Wolfe, Seth Fleming, Sydney Moore, Mia and Jane Cornell; his sister Sandra Fuller (David) of Bryant, Arkansas; and his sister-in-law Gloria Hayden of Tallulah, Louisiana. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In-lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in David's memory to Mercy Hospice- Fort Smith, or to the Booneville Animal Shelter.
