He was predeceased by: his parents, Tibble Shelton and Felia Shelton; his wife Yvonne Shelton; his siblings, Hulen Shelton and Jolene Shelton; his grandson Grant Shelton; and his stepchildren, Cindy Higginbotham and Danny Higginbotham.
He is survived by: his sons, James Shelton, Jr. (Monica) of Jonesboro and Tim Shelton (Angela) of Black Rock; his siblings, Robert Shelton (Fern) of Portia and Verlene Cantrell of Fresno, California; his granddaughter Lauren Shelton of Jonesboro; his stepgranddaughter Crystal Smith; his stepgreat-grandsons, Aaron and Cody Daughertree; and his great great grandchild Henry Finn Daughertree. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
