He was predeceased by: his parents, Arlie Thornton and Inez Whitley Thornton; his wife Carolyn Thornton; his sons, Chris Thornton and Jeff Scott; and his siblings, Wayne, Gifford Thornton, Wilma Wilson and Eloise "Ella" Porterfield.
He is survived by: his children, Chad Thornton of Hot Springs, Albert Dean Scott (Debbie) of Bismarck and Marla Looper (Roy) of Bismarck; his brother Lloyd Thornton (Judy) of Malvern; and his siblings-in-law, Charles Porterfield of Alvin, TX, Becky Thornton of Mena and Marcille Thornton of Bismarck. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.
