He was predeceased by: his parents, Y. B. Thornton and AleEne Hall Thornton; his grandfather Alphonso A. Thornton; his son Wesley Dean Thornton; his grandson Nicholas King; his sister Diane Robbins; and his stepgrandson Joseph Brewer.
He is survived by: his children, Harold Dean "Bud" Thornton, Jr. (Janet) of Bismarck, Deana King (Greg) of Bismarck and Cheana Conrad of Hot Springs; his brother Leon Thornton (Jean) of Bismarck; his brother-in-law Johnny Robbins; his grandchildren, Chad King, Corey King (Destiny), Courtney Poole (Justin), Brittany Garner (Cody), Jonathan Thornton (Taylor) and Cassidy Nazario (Shalom); his stepgrandson David Brewer; his great grandchildren, Drake, Sadie, Bristol, Byron, Willow, Farrah and Brooks; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Vincent, Ryder and Bayleigh; and his great great grandchild Myler. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
