He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe "Melvin" Whitney and Verba Whitney (Jackson); his brother Calvin Whitney; and his son Russell Whitney. He is survived by: his wife Vella Whitney; his daughter Donita; his son-in-law Eugene Powers; his granddaughters, Emily Powers (Britt Keeton) and Kayla Hilles (Jeremiah); his great grandchild Thoren Hilles; his stepchildren, Jerry Pendergraft (Mary Lou) and Karolyn Lauerman; his stepgrandson Cole Lauerman; and his friends, Mitchell and Michelle Archer. He is also survived by relatives and many dear friends.
