He was predeceased by: his parents, Stanley Wykes and Hettie Holmes Wykes. He is survived by: his daughter Dara (Eddie Murphy); his grandchildren, Chris Connolly, Austin Connolly, Ryan Lowery and Emma McCreary; and his great grandchild Madeline Elsberry.
