He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Swartwood and Fannie Swartwood (Richardson); his wife Bettie Swartwood; and his siblings, Johnny Swartwood, Marie Martin, Opal Freemen, Lucille Hamilton and Wanda Renaud.

He is survived by: his daughter Cheryl Whatley (Chad) of Pea Ridge; and his grandchildren, Alli Whatley, Sara Whatley and Brandon Whatley.
