He was predeceased by: his parents, Grover Cleveland Hinton and Pearl Beatrice Smith Hinton; and his brother Carson Hinton. He is survived by: his wife Thelma Hinton; his children, Deborah Lynne Haggland (Ernest) of Buellton, CA and Mark Hinton (Sharon) of Pineville, MO; his brother Gerald Hinton of Topeka, KS; and his grandchildren, Christina Allis (Scott), James Haggland, Melissa Witcher (Ben), Jessica Woods (Shawn) and Aaron Hinton (Hailey). He is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren.
