He was predeceased by: his parents, E. J. Doherty and Eva Garner Doherty; his wives, Peggy Doherty and Shirley Doherty; and his sisters, Lela Bryant, Dixie Newton and Frances Lewis.
He is survived by: his children, Wayne Doherty (Marilyn) of Bentonville, Jay Doherty of Bearden and Leanne Ballard (Joe) of Huntsville, Texas. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
