He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Pate and Retha Sample Pate; and his siblings, Olen Pate and Violet Altom. He is survived by: his wife Reba Pate; his children, Mark Pate (Julie), Kelli McNeill (Mike) and Wendy Sitzer (Tyler); his grandchildren, Jacob Corpier, Ian McNeill, Emily Pate, Sam Pate, Will Pate, Libby Pate, Krysti Sitzer and Shandi Sitzer; and his sister Nola McBride. He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren.
