He was predeceased by: his father Robert Kenneth; and his grandparents, Reimer, Jennie Hettinga (Sjoerdsma), Roscoe and Lillian Haney (Bennett).

He is survived by: his wife Sheila Lynette Hart Hettinga; his mother JoAnn Hettinga; his son Zach Hettinga (Shawn); his grandsons, Tyner and Bohannon Hettinga; his sister Melanie Hettinga Elmore; his nephews, T. J. (Jenny) and Luke Posey (Kacie); his great-nephews, Wes of Russellville, Drew of Russellville, Will of Russellville and Deacon Posey of Russellville; and his pet Rebel. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Atkins First Baptist Church.
