He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Alpha Johnston and Oneita Haney Johnston; his wife Rebecca Jo Berkemeyer Johnston; and his sisters, Jerry (Joyce Virden), Kathleen (Lonnie Napier), Pat (Paul Duvall) and Suzy (Gary McGee). He was also cherished by numerous loving nieces and nephews.
