He was predeceased by: his parents, William Whetstein and Martha Whetstein (Parsons); and his siblings, Bill, Bruce, Bobby and Betty.

He is survived by: his wife Rita Whetstein of Ashdown; his children, Brian Whetstein (Debra Bush) of Ashdown and Jennifer; his son-in-law Jonathan Stang of Kerrville, TX; his sister Brenda Cross; and his grandchildren, Paige Hale and Devon Schneider.
