He was predeceased by: his parents, Dossie Cox and Alma Sparks Cox; his son James Cox; his great grandchild Aiden Dewayne Culpepper; and his siblings, William Cox, Lois McDonald, Lucille Pollock and Martha Cox.
He is survived by: his wife Virgie Cox of Amity; his children, Louise Goss of New Jersey, Brenda Cox of New Jersey, Nancy Cox of Florida, Linda Cox of Arizona, John Cox of Hamilton, Ala, Edward Cox of Hamilton, Ala, Linda McCullough of West Monroe, Roger Cox of Columbia, Dorothy Minger of Kelly, Johnny Cox of Wasilla, Ala and Paula Griggs of Canyon Lake, Texas; his stepchildren, Tracy Howell of Columbia, Joyce Howell of Grayson, Louisiana and Heather Perot of Grayson, Louisiana; and his siblings, Gene Cox, Velma Griffith of Murfreesboro and Myrtle Cox. He is also survived by twenty-nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren.
