He was predeceased by: his parents, William Bradley Essman and Muriel Angeline Plymale Essman; his brothers, Dr. Richard Essman and Gene Essman; and his grandchild Caitlyn "Kai" Essman.
He is survived by: his wife Saundra; his children, Caroline Davis (Douglas), Sheridan Posey (Drew) and James T. Essman, Jr.; his grandchildren, Cade Essman and Tristan Davis; and his sister Francis Hoffman. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
