He was predeceased by: his parents, John Robert Tellie Edwards and Frances Cordelia Haynie; his son Carl William "Billy" Edwards, Jr.; his grandchildren, Beth Edwards and James Brian Bass; and his brother Jack Edwards.

He is survived by: his wife Betty Ann Cobb; his daughter Cheryll Bass; his sister Leila Jean McDonald; his grandchildren, Angel King (Dewayne) and Amanda Reese (Chad); and his great grandchildren, Jared Walker Faust, Isabella Corrinne Bass, James Briton Bass and Zada James Reese.

“Cheryll & family, I am so sorry for your loss. Carl was a wonderful neighbor & friend. I remember coming home, next door, ahead of my parents, following my grandmother's funeral, to find a pasture fire had started from an electric fence. I ran out there with a shovel & a rake to try & put it out. Fortunately, Carl saw me. Called the fire dept & then came out to help make sure it didn't go to our house. I am truly going to miss him! He sought me out at church every Sun for a hug! Will be missed!”
