He was predeceased by: his parents, Lilly May Mathews (Young) and John William Mathews; his wife Julia Mae Mathews (Wald); his siblings, Faye, Eulene and Harlan Mathews; and his sister-in-law Claranella Miller.
He is survived by: his brother Dale Mathews (Angie); his children, Karen Cecil, Mark Mathews (Karen) and Jackie Breneman (Dale); his grandchildren, Daniel Cecil, Julie Mortimer (Michael), Michael Cecil, Shawn Cecil (Jill), Ashleigh Mathews, Jennifer Costa (Guilherme), Dia LaRue (Josh) and Andrew Breneman; his great grandchildren, Nicholas Cecil, Savannah Cecil, Dylan Cecil, Kaden Cecil, Dakota Cecil, Trenton Cecil, Henry Cecil, Jack Costa, Oliver Costa, Theo Costa, Emerson LaRue, Fisher LaRue and Tatem Breneman; his great great grandchild Oliver Cecil; and his sister-in-law Mary Helen Schwab (Joseph). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
