He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Carter and Iola Taylor Carter; and his children, Randy Carter and Kathy Mathis. He is survived by: his wife Martha Jean Carter of Phenix City; his children, Cindy Eide (Frankie) of Columbus, GA, Dawn Davis (Robert) of Ashland and Rodney Clark (Heather) of Phenix City; his son-in-law Mike Mathis of Montevallo; and his grandchildren, Adam McCollum, Miranda Riley, Neal Henry, Cassie Varner, Kara Clark, Hunter Adamson and Brendon Clark. He is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren and a large extended family.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the family requests masks to be worn.
