He was predeceased by: his parents, Aubrey Whitley and Elma Whitley; his wife Ellen Davis Whitley; his grandson Max K. Colby; his mother-in-law Kate Henderson Davis; and his sister LaNelle Willingham.

He is survived by: his children, Dr. Michelle Whitley Turner of Ohio, Cynthia Kay Colby (Richard) of Ohio and Mitchell Lee Whitley (Tammy) of Kentucky; his son-in-law Mark Turner (Patti Bryan) of Ohio; his adoptive son David Blake (Jess Lim) of Georgia; his grandchildren, Althea Smith, Dr. Elizabeth Turner (Levi Coey), Logan Smith, Alexander Turner, Austin Whitley, Ashley Whitley and Maxton Colby; his siblings, Dale Whitley (Carolyn), Charles Whitley (Gloria), Roy Whitley (Shelba), Anita Hedgepath (Kenneth), Ken Whitley and Davis; his siblings-in-law, Donald "Don" Davis, Jr. (Edna), Robert "Bob" Davis (Mary) and Janet Davis Barkley (Larry); his nephew Michael Whitley; and his siblings-in-law, Agnes Davis and William Willingham. He is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends.

Lee had signed up to be an organ donor and offered his medical records for research into Parkinson's Plus Syndrome, MSA type.
