He was predeceased by: his father Thomas Richard Rary, Sr.; his father-in-law Frank Roy Wilson; and his grandparents, Newman, Earsel Turner, Lonnie Robert and Elizabeth Rary.

He is survived by: his mother Virginia Turner Rary; his wife Carron; his children, Shane Rary (Rhonda) and Hannah Stiver (Alec); his grandchildren, Marisa (Blake), Gavin, Jeremiah, Lola, Ella Jarrad, Beau and Blakely Stiver; his great grandchildren, Colton and Shephard; his brother Rick (Chryl); and his mother-in-law Peggy Anne Wilson.

In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Chief Rary may be made to the Vestavia Hills Police Foundation, which was his vision to create an organization devoted to exclusively supporting his officers and their families.
