She was predeceased by: her parents, Roy Birchfield and Vera Birchfield; and her sister Janice Smith. She is survived by: her sisters, Nell Graben and Sandra Fox; her daughter Gina Graham Atkins; her granddaughter Jenalee Atkins; and her great grandchildren, Gaines Sturgis, Jacob Sturgis, Danielle Messenger and Gabrielle Tate.
In lieu of flowers, Joan's family asks that donations be made in her memory to Chattahoochee Hospice in Valley, Alabama.
