He was predeceased by: his parent Elder; and his siblings, Alice Faye McGraw and Jeffrey Alvin Thornton. He is survived by: his wife Ila Jean Green Thornton; his children, Edie Lavon Thornton Eubanks, Eddie "Frank" Thornton, Jr. and Thomas "Edwin" Thornton (DeDe); his grandchildren, Clayton Thornton (Samantha), Sarah Kaitlyn Eubanks, Hannah Grace Billups (Andrew), Ed Eubanks, Cren Thornton, Macy Ann Thornton and Malyn Thornton; his great grandchild Emma Kate Thornton; and his sisters, Mary Katherine Wilson and Pamela Graham (Kenneth). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
