She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Velmer Buchanan and Marjorie Mentora Dodd Buchanan; her husband David R. Smith; her children, Laurie Burns (Eddie McABee), Venita Smith and David D. Smith (Becky); her sisters, Jane Peppers and Charlene Johnson (Dell); her sister-in-law Gayle Buchanan; her grandchildren, Ben Rimkus (Megan), Jessica Hicks (Andrew), Chase Smith (Courtney), Steven Clark and Katie Gulledge; her great grandchildren, Khaleesi Rimkus, Carter Hicks, Koen Hicks, Lyla Smith, Raeleigh Clark, Emma King, Madalynn Gulledge, Kinley Gulledge, Emma Gulledge and Brock Gulledge; her nephew Josh Johnson; and her brother David N. Buchanan.

In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations be made to Partners For Missions at First Baptist Union Grove or to Shepherd's Cove Hospice.
