He was predeceased by: his daughter Rachel Leigh Donaldson Robbins; his brother Charles Donaldson (Chaz); his grandparents, Joseph Brinson Coody Sr. and Arrie Belle Coody; his daughter W. F. "Bill" Holdefer; and his close friend Doug Royale.
He is survived by: his wife Gwen Banta Donaldson; his daughters, Tricia Michelle Donaldson Nichols (Toby) of Northport and Allison Paige Sweeney (Andrew) of Birmingham; his grandchildren, Emily Burch, Brendan Sweeney and Parker Robbins; his mother Arabella LaBarber; his sister Brenda Lively (Aaron) of Carbon Hill; and his friends, Robert Dunbar, Rick Gilmore, Bill Lewandowski and Mike Holdefer.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or another charity of your choice.
