He was predeceased by: his parents, Avis Phillips and Freeman Phillips; and his brother Ronnie Phillips. He is survived by: his children, Micah Bruce Phillips (Tuscaloosa) and Matthew Alan "Wash" Phillips (Tuscaloosa); the mother of his children Deborah Phillips Hurst (Tuscaloosa); his grandson Sebastian Phillips (Tuscaloosa); and his siblings, Eddie Phillips of Greer, SC, Stan Phillips of Stonewall, MS and Tammy Phillips Caldwell (Kevin) of Bailey, MS.
