He was predeceased by: his parents, Obie Ray and Annette Portwood Laney; his grandparents, Foy, Annie Lou Portwood, Homer and Donie Laney; his father-in-law Kayo Lewis; his sister Brenda Laney Harris; and his brother-in-law Aubrey Peters.
He is survived by: his wife Maxine; and his children, Brett Laney (Carrie Juliano) of Tuscaloosa and Kelsè Laney of Birmingham.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of West Alabama or to the Lewis & Faye Manderson Cancer Center.
