He was predeceased by: his wife Hazel L. Mathews; and his son William F. Mathews of Texas. He is survived by: his children, Michael D. Mathews (Susan) of Trussville, AL and Jeddy Mathews of Trussville, AL; his grandchild Kelly Wilson (Kylon); and his children, Sheila Ditzler (Adam), Craig Mathews (Liza), Brian Mathews (Michelle), Michelle Tice (Sammy) and April Evans (Scott). He is also survived by 22 Great Grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Trussville Building Fund.
