He was predeceased by: his parents, J. C. Higginbotham and Jeanette Huffstutler Higginbotham; and his sister Susan Newton. He is survived by: his sons, Michael Higginbotham (Kimberly), Jayme Higginbotham (Lanie) and Joseph Higginbotham (Jackie); his sisters, Pam Hagood (J. C.) and Alicia Higginbotham (Terrell); his close friend Stacey Teer; and also Julie Thrift. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.
