She was predeceased by: her sisters, Leona Franklin and Noretta Mayberry; and her son Julius C. Muhammad. She is survived by: her sister Emmalean Cousins; her children, Noretta Edwards (Ernest), Regina Brown and Donnie Smith (Cheryl); her goddaughters, Vera Fernandez (Nana) and Makia Shante Birch; and her grandchildren, TaHasha Muhammad, Khaleefa Muhammad, Marsena Edwards, Farrakhan Muhammad (LaQuita), Armani L. Washburn, Ashia Muhammad, Khadir Muhammad and Sabir Muhammad. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren.
