He was predeceased by: his siblings, Bud Auffenburg, Tom McGath, Jerry McGath, Sherry Craven and Judy Clark; his wife Joan D. McGath; and his sons, Thomas Owen McGath and John Lee McGath.

He is survived by: his children, Benjamin E. McGath (Julie) and Cynthia L. Jones (Joseph); his grandchildren, Stephen E. McGath, Thomas L. McGath, Ethan C. McGath (Gabrielle), Caitlyn E. McGath and Chloe L. Keating (Garrett); and his siblings, Norman "Mick" McGath (Pat) and Janet Miller (John).
