He was predeceased by: his father Jessie David Butler; his stepfather Gordon Thornell; and his grandparents, Johnny, Flora Butler, Elvin and Winifred Rutledge.
He is survived by: his mother Martha R. Thornell; his sons, Justin Butler (Jamie) and Jonathan Butler (Cassie); his brother Keith Butler (Cathy); his grandchildren, Bailey Nichols (Zach), Britney, Blaire, Aidan Butler, Anna Garnett, Nathan, Natalie Butler, Harrison and Jack Renfroe; his nephew Kyle Butler (Nicole); his nieces, Jessica Hammonds (Corbin) and Kelsey Segrest (Forrest); his great-nieces, Ivry Hammonds and Amelia Segrest; and his great-nephew Ivan Hammonds.
