He was predeceased by: his parents, Gentry G. Mellon and Ruth Hutton Mellon; his former wife Doris Taylor Mellon; his daughter Linda Jones; and his siblings, Inez Searcy, Ruth Pearson and J. C. Mellon.
He is survived by: his wife Maudie Johns Mellon of Talladega; his son Robert Mellon, Jr. (Vicki); his stepchildren, Randy Thornton, Rodney Thornton (Sherry), Erwin Thornton (Lisa), Annette Thornton Yarbrough (Andy) and Jessie Thornton Edwards; and his siblings, Jimmy Mellon (Charlaine), Joe Mellon, Wayne Mellon, Sara Henderson and Maretta Hall (Frank). He is also survived by 13 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren, and multiple nieces and nephews.
