He was predeceased by: his son Eddie Ray Heard; his parents, Sherman Heard and Jewel Heard; and his siblings, Gaynell Reel, Eldridge Heard and Larry Heard.

He is survived by: his wife Rheanetta Heard; his daughters, Jeanine Cooksey, Annette Bailey, Gayla Martin (Arvil) and Lisa Brown (Barry); and his siblings, Dot Dyer, Wayne Heard (Elaine), Earl Heard (Wanda), Dale Heard (Vickey), Melvin Heard and Donald Heard. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 16, great-grandchildren.
