He was predeceased by: his parents, John B. Thomas and Ola L. Thomas; and his siblings, Dale R. Thomas, Roy C. Thomas, John E. Thomas, Else F. Johnson, Ila Jean Toxey, Jeanette Nelson, Catherine Sides and Frances Andrews.
He is survived by: his wife Ruby Thomas; his children, Kaye Spears, Melissa Hines (Chuck) and Brian Thomas; his grandchildren, Nicki Griffin, Christina Aldridge, Kayla Alexander, Hunter Cox and Savannah Thomas; his great grandchildren, Wendell Harbison, Logan Shaffield, Mark Heitzman, London Aldridge, Sky Bailey and Maelynn Grace Alexander; and his sisters, Betty Williams and Linda Sue Vines (James). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
