He was predeceased by: his parents, John E. Varner and Cora Burks Varner (Mary Bradley Varner); and his siblings, Clarence Varner, Kenneth Varner, Gene Varner, Elmo Varner, Edna Bonnett and Ellen Ruth Faulkner.
He is survived by: his wife LaVerne Price Varner; his children, Arista Varner Scott (James Kenneth) and Rod Varner; and his stepchildren, Lynda Moss Johnson (Waymon) and David Moss (Judy). He is also survived by seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and multiple nieces and nephews.
